Enjoy this sweet and spiced pear jam on toast with ham and eggs, on hot rolls with meat or as a spread on baked goods. Make multiple jars, then keep some for yourself and give some as gifts.
Instructions
1
Simmer the jam ingredients
2
In a Dutch oven, combine the pears, sugar, cinnamon and cloves, then bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to a low simmer and let the jam cook, uncovered, until it has thickened, 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours. Stir the jam occasionally during the first hour, and stir it more frequently as the mixture thickens.
3
Skim off the foam
4
Remove the cooked jam from the heat, then skim off the foam.
5
Add the jam to jars
6
Carefully ladle the jam into hot 1/2-pint jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Remove the air bubbles by gently shaking the jars, then wipe the rims and apply the lids.
7
Process the jam jars for 10 minutes in a boiling water canner.
