Turkey Sweet Potato Chili
300 min1 servings

Our turkey sweet potato chili recipe is a wonderful variation on chili and contains no beef or tomatoes. The sweet potatoes are packed with vitamins and minerals and the turkey is a welcome alternative to ground beef.

Ingredients
1 pound ground turkey
1 small onion, chopped
2 cups chicken broth
1 can (15 ounces) sweet potato puree or canned pumpkin
1 can (4 ounces) chopped green chiles
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon curry powder
1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 can (15-1/2 ounces) great northern beans, rinsed and drained
Optional: Sour cream, fresh cilantro and sliced red onions
Instructions
1 Cook the turkey and onion
2 In a large skillet, cook the ground turkey and onion over medium heat until the turkey is no longer pink and the onion is tender, for five to seven minutes. Break the turkey into crumbles while cooking it; drain the grease after cooking. Transfer the cooked turkey and onion to a 3- or 4-quart slow cooker.
3 Slow cook the turkey sweet potato chili
4 Stir in the broth, sweet potato puree, chiles and seasonings. Cover and cook on low for four to five hours. Stir in the beans and cook until they're heated through, for about one hour. If desired, top each serving with sour cream, cilantro and red onions.
