A fall favorite, this easy apple crumble feeds a crowd. Don’t forget to buy some vanilla ice cream!
Ingredients
8 cups sliced peeled tart apples (about 6 medium)
2-1/4 cups packed brown sugar, divided
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 cup butter, softened
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup finely chopped walnuts, divided
Vanilla ice cream, optional
Instructions
1Assemble the apple base
2Preheat the oven to 350°F. Place the sliced apples in a greased 13x9-inch baking dish. Sprinkle 1/4 cup brown sugar evenly on top. Sprinkle the cinnamon evenly on top.
3Make the topping
4In a bowl, use a hand mixer or stand mixer to cream the butter and remaining brown sugar together. Editor’s Tip: Cream the butter and brown sugar together on medium-high speed until the mixture is airy and fluffy and the color has lightened a bit. This can take around five minutes. Beat in the eggs. Then stir in the all-purpose flour and 1/2 cup walnuts.
5Smooth on the topping
6Spread the topping over the apples. Sprinkle the remaining walnuts evenly over the top.
7Bake the crumble
8Bake the apple crumble until the apples are tender, 45 to 55 minutes. Serve the crumble warm from the oven, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of each serving if desired.
