Make a vegan apple crisp with tart apples and a sweet, crumbly topping minus the dairy. This delightful recipe tastes just like the traditional version.
Ingredients
4 cups sliced peeled tart apples (about 3 medium)
1/3 granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, divided
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup cold vegan butter-style sticks
Instructions
1Make the apple filling
2Preheat the oven to 375°F. Toss the apples with granulated sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Pour the apple filling into a greased 8-inch square baking dish.
3Make the topping
4In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, flour, oats, remaining 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, salt and nutmeg; cut in the vegan butter until crumbly.
5Bake the crisp
6Sprinkle the topping over the apples. Bake until the apples are tender, 30 to 35 minutes. Serve warm. Editor's Tip: Place a baking sheet on a separate rack underneath the crisp to catch anything that may drip and ooze over.
