A gluten-free apple crumble is one of our favorite desserts to bake after a trip to the apple orchard. Filled with tender tart apples, spicy cinnamon and a gluten-free crumble topping, this recipe is autumnal to the core.
Ingredients
6 cups sliced peeled tart apples
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup gluten-free all-purpose baking flour (without xanthan gum)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
Ice cream, optional
Instructions
1Arrange the apples
2Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the apples in a greased 9-inch square baking dish.
3Make the crumble topping
4In a small bowl, whisk together the sugar, gluten-free flour and cinnamon. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle the topping over the apples, making sure to reach all four corners and edges.
5Bake the crumble until it’s golden brown and bubbly around the edges, 50 to 55 minutes.
6Serve the crumble
7If desired, serve the crumble with ice cream. Editor’s Tip: When making crumble recipes, I always let the crumble sit for 30 to 60 minutes after baking. This gives the filling time to thicken and set up, and lets the whole crumble cool off a bit so it’s not piping hot.
