A classic avocado toast recipe with 3 easy variations. Perfect for a quick breakfast, lunch or midday snack!
Ingredients
2 slices sturdy bread ($0.40*)
1 garlic clove (peeled, $0.08)
1 avocado (medium-sized, $1.39**)
1 tsp lemon juice (fresh, $0.14)
⅛ tsp salt ($0.02)
⅛ tsp black pepper (freshly cracked, $0.02)
1 pinch crushed red pepper ($0.02)
Instructions
1Toast the bread
2Cut 2 slices of sturdy bread. Toast the bread in a toaster or in a skillet on the stovetop until golden brown.
3Rub the peeled garlic clove over the top of the warm toasted bread, making sure to fully cover the entire surface area.
4Mash the avocado
5Next, halve the avocado and remove the pit. Scoop out the avocado flesh from both halves and place it in a bowl. Add a small squeeze of fresh lemon juice (about 1 tsp), salt and pepper to the bowl and mash the avocado with a fork. I recommend leaving it just a little chunky.
6Make the toast
7Divide the avocado mixture and spread it on top of each slice of toast. Top with a pinch of red pepper flakes and a pinch of sea salt (optional).
